The flag of Armenia was adopted on August 24, 1990. It consists of three horizontal colors: Red, Blue, and Orange. 96% of the population speaks the Armenian language as well as some other languages such as Russian, Greek, and others. Armenian is an Indo-European language used in Armenia, in the surrounding areas, and in the Diaspora, where Armenian communities have settled. Among the Indo-European languages, Armenian is one of the few languages to maintain its primitive form, close to the Greek and Persian languages. Religion Christianity has been the official religion of Armenia since Armenia was the first country after Rome to adopt Christianity as the official religion of the state, adopted in 301 AD. Most of the population belongs to the Armenian missionary church and they are followers of the Eastern Orthodox Church.
